William S. Hart Stamp Issue Events

The United States Postal Service is releasing a set of four stamps entitled Cowboys of the Silver Screen.  Of the four commemorative stamps, William S. Hart will be memorialized along with Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and Tom Mix.  A special ceremony will be held at the William S. Hart Park and Museum on April 17, 2010 to unveil the William S. Hart stamp followed by special activities throughout the day.  Join us in celebrating the William S. Hart Legacy at the Hart Park and Museum!

Make an entire day’s visit at the Hart Park and Museum!  In honor of the Hart Stamp’s first day of issue, there will be plenty of music and good family fun.  Check out the activities below and come join us!

Unveiling Ceremony

William S. Hart Museum- 10:00am

Join us for the unveiling of the William S. Hart Stamp at the Hart Museum!  Hear about the Hart Stamp and Bill Hart’s legacy from dignitaries representing the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, Friends of Hart Park, United States Postal Service and representatives from the Federal, State and City governments may also be present.  Light refreshments will be served courtesy of the William S. Hart Museum, a member of the Natural History Family of Museums.  For more information, please contact the Hart Museum at 661-254-4584.

Directly following the ceremony, all four stamps within the Cowboys of the Silver Screen set will be available for purchase and cancellation through the United States Postage Service.  Check out the Friends of Hart Park’s one-of-a-kind envelopes designed specifically for the Hart Stamp Unveiling! 

Music in the Park: Silver Screen Cowboy Project

Listen to the original music of the Silver Screen Cowboy Project in Hart Hall!  Take a trip back to the time of Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, The Lone Ranger, and John Wayne through music and multi-media.  Come see why the Silver Screen Cowboy Project was honored as the 2009 Western Music Association’s President’s Award and was the most played CD by the Western Music Association reporting DJs since January 2009!

Show Times:  11:30pm and 2:30pm

Admission:  Adults- $1.00; Children- $0.25

Special Mansion Tours

Did you know that a film poster from “Tumbleweeds” was used as a model for the Hart postage stamp?  Be sure to visit the Museum for an exclusive view of costumes and props from Hart’s final film, Tumbleweeds.  While on your guided tour, you will also see a magnificent collection of Western Artwork, Native American baskets and film memorabilia.  Guided tours are always free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Tour Times:  11:00am-3:30pm, Tours begin every half hour    

 

Animal Barnyard

Hart Park’s Animal Barnyard is home to 45 animals including ducks, horses, deer, and a mule.  Stop by the Friends of Hart Park Gift Store and purchase animal feed so you can feed the animals!

Children’s Activities

Yee-ha!  Visit the Hart Ranch House to learn about a day in the life of a cowboy!  Guests are welcome to participate in different crafts and activitiesAll children are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent.
